omorrow and Sunday the Church celebrates it’s 102nd Thanksgiving Anniversary or Pasalamat as we all know it.
Question: Is there anything to be thankful for? The countless debts incurred by the Church, the harassment of concurrent and former members, the fear inherent of all members to speak their hearts and mind out.The control of ministers and workers by a stranglehold so tight the jugular nears bursting point.
All in the name of salvation inside the Church of Christ or Iglesia ni Cristo. The Webex broadcasts, the so called evangelical missions on media and the community preaching the word and love of God. And in direct contrast promulgate hate and oppression against everyone and anyone who questions its directives.
I ask you again. Is there anything to be thankful for? Or are we just in the middle of a barren desert staring at a mirage that does not exist. Hoping for water where there is none. Are we that naive?
Monetary offerings? When and where did God ever declare that His glorification ends with the offering of money? God is glorified when that offering is put to Godly use. The temple, the tabernacle, the chapel, all things and endeavors related to glorifying Him. Monetary offerings to pay off debts where the banks make a killing? Monetary offerings for personal cruises, jets, mansions, cars?
Remember He had once said, “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully’ [2 Corinthians 9:7].” So when you drop that envelope tomorrow or Sunday, are you a cheerful giver knowing in your heart that it is not to God you are giving your offering but to man who has come to know no God? And ask yourself, “Will God be pleased despite you knowing that your offerings will not reach His throne, still succumb to the will of one man and give praise to him on the stupid belief that this is the will of God?”
My envelope will be empty.
