An open letter to His Excellency the Devil Lucifer, and his Grand Knights of the Round Table.
Dear Mr. Devil:
First, allow me to congratulate you for a job well done. Your timing was perfect. The centennial celebration of the Kingdom, all guards were down, and the new leadership at its infancy. The hierarchy handed over to a weak son on a silver platter complete with all the trimmings of gold and power at his disposal.
All you needed was one lackey to test the resolve of the new King. And sadly our King fell to your clutches of fame, riches, and glory at the expense of his people. We were a happy lot with few wants and ambition. All that we desired was to be able to live in peace with our brothers and sisters knowing the existence of the comforting arms of our King who would always be there to guide and shelter us from the wickedness of this cruel world.
But alas, you have successfully managed to divide our Kingdom. It is now brother against brother, sister against sister, blood relations no longer exist. Our King together with his ever loyal knights now brandish their swords in sowing fear among their poor and innocent subjects.
Your patience is truly astonishing. I admire you for that. Having continued without giving up even for 100 years is something that merits applause. Your perseverance finally paid off. After trying in vain to win over our first King and his son, even to the extent of creating two world wars and change of governments, you finally succeeded in converting to your fold our current King who knew not the harsh beginnings and sacrifices of his honorable predecessors.
You have ingeniously and subtly managed to affix your signatures on the “holy” structures of the Kingdom. The “Ba’al” likeness of the grand arena, the mark of the beast “right hand thumbprint” signifying loyalty to the King, and the kneeling and kissing of the hands by all of his die-hard sycophants. Yes, you must be sitting on your throne gloating and laughing over your success by the weakness of our King and his hundreds of blind followers swearing allegiance to him and forgetting their Maker.
Before I close Mr. Devil, I would like to remind you that these sentiments of mine together with so many still out there will not end at a surrendering or succumbing note. Another man of God you also could not convince was Job. God gave you all the leeway to make him turn but you failed. Riches and even family could not make him turn against his Maker. Instead Job declared “I came naked from my mother’s womb and I shall have nothing when I die. The Lord gave me everything I had, and they were his to take away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:20-22).
Definitely your plan is going as expected. Soon no material wealth will be left for the Kingdom to boast about. No riches, no fame, or even glory. So I ask you Mr. Devil, when everything worldly has left us, what are you going to tempt us with? The return of former fame and glory which you took from us in the first place? No, we have learned our lesson well. It is not wealth and riches that define God’s Kingdom. It is love in our Maker, the faith in Him and His promise to deliver us from evil. We are His remaining children. We will survive. You can count on it.
And now with deepest conviction I say to you and your grand knights of the round table, “Go to Hell.”
